Characteristics of party system in India 1. Multi-party system India mainly has a multi-party system with contests between them every five years. The party which has the trust of the people wins the majority and forms the government. No party can maintain stability in government because the fate of any party depends on public opinion here. 2. Regional group growth In terms of regional differences in India Political leaders form one party at a time to achieve their own interests.
